The 2017 FIA European Rally Championship battle commenced with the Azores Airline Rallye. Kajetan Kajetanowicz and Jarek Baran started the event with excellent pace, topping the street City Show in Ponta Delgada and extremely important Qualifying Stage – which gave them the first choice of starting position. Yesterday’s leg was very successful for the LOTOS Rally Team crew. They recorded one stage win and finished another two with slender gaps of 0.1 seconds to stage winners. Thanks to this performance they led the rally overnight.
Kajto and Jarek started today’s leg as rally leaders in overall standings. Unfortunately, on fifth special stage, Pico da Pedra Golfe (7.02 kms), they lost the ideal line through a left corner over crest and their car hit a wall. The crew is OK and the rally car is now on its way back to the service park. We will inform you about current status of return to action in due course.
