Reigning European Rally Champion Kajetan Kajetanowicz completed the opening loop of Rally Italia Sardegna and headed to the service park in Alghero. However, the Polish driver did not avoid problems which resulted in time loss to the WRC-2 leaders. Co-driven by Maciej Szczepaniak, Kajetanowicz finished two stages with punctured tyres, which in turn damaged the suspension. He managed to complete the final stage without major drama and set a very good, third-fastest time!
The second loop, which awaits Kajetanowicz and Szczepaniak, consists of the same four special stages which were run in the morning. The Polish duo currently hold eleventh position in WRC-2 standings.
– After the first loop we know a whole lot more about conditions during WRC rallies. We had two punctures and bended the suspension. There are plenty of big stones on the road. This is a lottery, significantly bigger than in the European Championship. We knew it before the start but it is difficult to take it easy, wondering if there are rocks on the exit of each corner. Nonetheless, this morning brought us many positive things. We set a nice time on the final stage, we adjust our pace notes. It is a shame that apart from the last test, we did not manage to complete other stages at full pace. I was focusing on the problems, trying to bring the car home. We changed the punctured tyres on road sections and these decisions were correct. We have to take them very quickly. Now our mechanics will check the car and we will continue to fight!
