Kajetan Kajetanowicz has reached the final straight of his preparations ahead of the 2023 season. Last week, in Portugal, Kajto tested a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 – a brand new rally car prepared by Czech manufacturer. The ORLEN Rally Team crew entered Rally México in their proven Škoda Fabia Rally2 evo – but it is possible that the Polish duo will drive the new model in selected rounds. The car choice depends on decisions of the most successful Polish rally driver.
The entry list of Rally México, round three of the 2023 World Rally Championship, was published last Thursday – featuring the ORLEN Rally Team crew of Kajetan Kajetanowicz and Maciej Szczepaniak. This will be their first outing this year, and the only one which has been confirmed so far. The competition in the WRC2 field is very strong: including Greensmith and Andersson, Solberg and Edmondson, Formaux and Coria or reigning champions Lindholm and Hämäläinen.
Preparing himself for the rally, Kajetanowicz completed his first testing session in Portugal, driving two different models of Škoda. He tackled the gravel stages in a Škoda Fabia Rally2 evo, which he already drove last year, and in its new version, called RS Rally2. The new model boasts a more efficient aerodynamics package, upgraded suspension and more powerful engine. Kajto is impressed with improved performance of the new rally car.
– Coming back to our rally routine makes me really happy. We have just completed a very important testing session – comparing a new generation of Škoda with the previous one, which we got to know very well. The new car impressed me a lot, it has big potential. In my opinion it is a bit more powerful. However, my knowledge of the old model is a lot better when it comes to car set-up and we are prepared for every conditions. Together with our engineers, we analyse the data we have gathered during this test and on this basis we will choose our car ahead of each rally. This decision will be a little tougher for me than it is for factory drivers, as they have covered plenty of kilometres in the new car – and some of them have already competed in two events. Now it’s time for Rally México, we are ready! Keep your fingers crossed for us
– says Kajetan Kajetanowicz.
Rally México returns to the WRC calendar after two years’ break. The organisers have planned 23 special stages, with combined length of 320.71 kilometres. The competition starts on Thursday, 16 March. Round three of the 2023 World Rally Championship season comes to an end on 19 March.
Starts of Kajetan Kajetanowicz are supported by strategic partner of the ORLEN Rally Team – PKN ORLEN, as well as technical partner Delphi Technologies, Pirelli, Grupa Sikora and SJS Driving Experience.
