Kajetan Kajetanowicz and Maciej Szczepaniak, second-placed crew of the 2021 World Rally Championship in WRC-3 category, are ready for another battle. The penultimate round of this year’s campaign, Rally de España, takes place in Catalunya. There is one crucial difference to previous editions of this event, known for mixed surfaces of asphalt and gravel – now all stages are run on tarmac only.
The LOTOS Rally Team crew have completed the pre-event testing and preparations with three runs of shakedown. Kajetanowicz and Szczepaniak checked the set-up of their rally car, setting also excellent second-fastest time – trailing the quickest crew by just 0.2 seconds. The Polish competitors are highly motivated ahead of another fight for points which will help them to achieve the ultimate goal – which is to win the world championship title.
– We have completed the shakedown ahead of Rally de España. It is just the beginning but we already know that you have to drive with utmost precision. We face almost 300 kilometres of fight on really narrow, twisty, fast and grippy stages. This is a varied rally, with unusual jumps, so we need to be very careful. We are ready, our car performs well and I am looking forward to competing on the stages. The first and basically only pure tarmac round this year was held in Croatia – where we won. However, the route in Spain has a completely different characteristics and it is just impossible to compare these two event. The competition here is an entirely new chapter for me
– says Kajetan Kajetanowicz, the LOTOS Rally Team driver.
The ceremonial start takes place on Thursday evening in Salou, with the opening special stages scheduled for Friday morning. This leg consists of two runs of three tests: Vilaplana (20.00 kms, starts at 8:43 and 15:00), La Granadella (21.80 kms, at 10:21 and 16:38) and Riba-roja (14.21 kms, at 11:42 and 17:59).
Starts of Kajetan Kajetanowicz are supported by strategic partner of the LOTOS Rally Team – Grupa LOTOS – as well as Delphi Technologies, Pirelli, SJS Driving Experience and Grupa Sikora.
