The Polish crew lead the WRC2 standings in Safari Rally Kenya ahead of the final day of competition! Kajetan Kajetanowicz and Maciej Szczepaniak won five of today’s six special stages and after fantastic performance regained the first position in their category, moving up to eighth place in the overall classification. Only the fastest Rally1 cars are ahead of the ORLEN Rally Team crew!
Kajetanowicz and Szczepaniak made up lost ground today, after suffering a puncture on Friday. They challenged their closest rivals Munster and Louka and took the lead but their competitors ultimately had to retire due to technical reasons. The ORLEN Rally Team crew extended their lead, with more than 10 minutes in hand over second-placed rivals ahead of the final leg.
– Another day of Safari Rally is already behind us. We are in the lead, with considerable advantage. Today the road conditions were very tough, with plenty of mud. The car suffered a lot but hopefully our guys will bring it back to original condition at the service! Everything can still happen… I need to stay calm and focused because tomorrow’s stages are very challenging. Keep your fingers crossed!
– Kajetan Kajetanowicz, the ORLEN Rally Team driver, summed up the day.
The final leg, on Sunday, consists of six special stages, totalling over 74 kilometres. The crews will fight on two runs of Malewa (8.33 kms), Oserian (18.33 kms) and Hell’s Gate (10.53 kms) tests. The final one will be also contested as the Power Stage, with additional championship points for top crews.
Starts of Kajetan Kajetanowicz are supported by titular partner of the ORLEN Rally Team – PKN ORLEN, as well as technical partner Delphi Technologies, Pirelli, ATC CARGO S.A., PLATINUM ORLEN OIL brand, QUAZAR LOTOS OIL brand and SJS S.A.
