Kajetanowicz has started his 2024 World Rally Championship campaign with another success in Safari Rally. After third consecutive win on gravel stages in Kenya, the ORLEN Rally Team crew scored maximum haul of points in the WRC2 Challenger standings. Now it’s time for Rally Italia Sardegna, round six of the World Rally Championship. Kajetanowicz and Szczepaniak join the competition for the second time this year.
Kajetan Kajetanowicz enjoyed a great start of the 2024 season in the most prestigious rally serie. The reigning WRC2 Challenger champion notched up his third consecutive victory in legendary Safari Rally, proving his top form. Kajetanowicz, who often admits that he likes tough challenges, has decided to follow the gruelling Kenyan round with tricky Italian gravel stages, with changeable grip levels.
Forty WRC2 crews have entered Rally Italia Sardegna and 36 of them will also score points in the WRC2 Challenger standings. This is a new record in this year’s World Rally Championship campaign and the bar will be set very high – with seven drivers from top ten WRC2 classification!
Kajetanowicz will contest Rally Italia Sardegna for the sixth time in his career, having scored three podium places so far – including last year’s start, when he won the WRC2 Challenger standings and claimed third position in the overall WRC2 standings. He also took the lead of the 2023 WRC2 Challenger classification – at the end of the season Kajetanowicz and Szczepaniak won the championship title in this category. The ORLEN Rally Team crew start the competition in Rally Italia Sardegna on 31 May.
– After successful start of the season and our victory in Safari Rally, now we are heading to Italy. Very difficult, with tough opposition, on changeable surface on hot special stages – this is how Rally Italia Sardegna looks like. Picturesque island of Sardegna is a popular tourist destination but we will not relax there. This year’s WRC2 field is very competitive and this is great, as I enjoy racing against fast rivals. I feel good, the whole ORLEN Rally Team have completed promising preparations ahed of the rally – but the real test still lies ahead
– Kajetan Kajetanowicz, the WRC2 Challenger champion, comments ahead of the rally.
Rally Italia Sardegna is very complicated from logistics point of view. The organisers have prepared sixteen special stages, with total length of almost three hundred kilometres. The whole rally distance, including road sections, exceeds one thousand kilometres. It is a tough test not only for cars and tyres – facing some sharp rocks on the stages – but also for crews, spending long hours in hot temperatures. This year’s Rally Italia Sardegna is divided into three legs, from 31 May to 2 June.
Starts of Kajetan Kajetanowicz are supported by the title partner of the ORLEN Rally Team – ORLEN S.A., as well as technical partner Delphi, Pirelli, ORLEN OIL, ATC CARGO S.A. and SJS S.A.
